Portable Devices: Panasonic Toughbook UMPC with an Intel Atom CPU
Panasonic came up with its own UMPC, the Toughbook. The device was unveiled at CeBIT, and represents a water, dust, and shock resistant computer that operates on an Intel Atom processor and comes with a 5.6” touch-sensitive display. That's all we know for now.
Here's a new competitor to the Asus Eee PC and the Everex Cloudbook, the Sungjut Tango X UMPC for the Korean market. The device will most likely feature:
- 7" 800 x 480 touch-screen display
- Via C7 CPU
- 1GB of RAM
- 40GB/80GB HDD

WIBRAIN has launched the B1L, its new entry-level UMPC for the Korean market. There are 4 models available, each has a different HDD and amount of RAM. Common features include 1GHz CPU, a 4.8" 1024 x 600 resolution LCD display, and Ubuntu (or Windows XP) OS packed with Microsoft Office. The prices vary between $400 - $500 depending on the model.
Kojinsha E8 is a new ultra-mobile touchscreen tablet PC, similar to the popular Eee PC from Asus. Except the low 512MB of RAM, other features look pretty decent:
- 7" touchscreen display at 1024 x 600
- 40GB HDD
- 512MB RAM
- Stereo speakers
- USB port
- Memory card slot
- 3.5 hours of battery life
- AMD Geode LX800 CPU

The release is scheduled on February 29. The price is $600.

Everex CloudBook is a new 7" UMPC that was recently unveiled at CES and will be available on January 25th. However, the manufacturer doesn't want to stop there and plans to develop the 9" model, which as they say will still cost under $500. The second version should be released by June; untill then Everex expects to sell about 20.000 of 7" units.
The new Samsung Q1UP-XP Ultra Premium UMPC has just been presented at CES. The device is targeted at "both commercial markets and individuals looking for an ultra-portable solution without the compromise in power and features". Here's a detailed list of specifications:

OQO has recently presented an updated version of their model 02 UMPC at CES, which is already available for purchase. They claim that it is WiMax-certified and comes with a 64GB SSD and a "Sunlght Optimazed display", which should provide 50% better viewing in direct sunlight. Well, everething is cool except that they could have integrated HSDPA support instead of WiMax...
