The Nikon Coolpix P5000 has a small but fatal weakness, which deffinitely reduces it's rating. Well, the focus here is just too damn slow! Other cameras in this class focus 2 or even 3 times faster, and it's really annoying when you miss the shots because of the slow focus.

Nikon D40 is an SLR digital camera that allows for lens interchangeability, offers plenty of auto and manual-controlled image effect options, and doesn’t have that dreadful shutter lag. And with a 6 Mpix sensor it provides great image quality and print size potential.

The Nikon Coolpix L5 is a very sophisticated camera for beginner photographers. It has very limited manual control and slow overall performance. Somehow Nikon Coolpix L5 manages to combine a good amount of features in a relatively compact body. These features include D-Lighting exposure correction technology, a face-priority AF function, an in-camera red-eye function, Nikon's Best Shot Selector mode and one-touch portrait button.

Nikon Coolpix L6 has a 6-megapixel CCD image sensor, a 3x optical zoom, a 2.5" LCD, and a host of easy-to-use in-camera Nikon technologies like D-Lighting, Red-Eye Fix, and Face Priority AF. Costing less then $200 this camera seems to be a real treasure for beginning photographers.

Another cool thing about Coolpix L6 is its extraordinarily long battery life. You can take up to 1,000 shots on a pair of AA Lithium batteries. But despite all its positives, image quality is quite low.
